ABOUT THE PRODUCER

The company was born in 2013 from the desire of two friends to invest in agriculture as part of an innovative culture in Portugal – the culture of the Cactus Pear in an orderly orchard – which has been growing in terms of commercial exploitation possibilities, in addition to the high nutritional value already known.
The company’s activity is in the production of prickly pear for marketing fresh fruit or for the food industry.
The orchard has been growing in stages, i.e. in 2013 1.3 ha (opuntia ficus indica) orange and green variety were planted, in 2014 another 2 ha (opuntia ficus indica) orange variety were planted and finally in 2015 the last 2 ha of purple variety (opuntia robusta). The orchard obeys the formation in quadricula ( 5 x 5 ) occupying an area of 5,30 ha in a property with a total area of 7,5 ha. The property has a borehole that through a system of pumping / drip irrigation makes the irrigation of 2 ha and the remaining 3.30 ha are in dry system.
We want to believe that with our culture we will be making our contribution to an environmental sustainability that includes investing in organic agriculture, maintaining a balance between local fauna and flora, and investing in renewable energies since we already use them to obtain water for irrigation in part of the orchard. In addition, we are betting on a culture of reduced water needs.
That said, the conditions for good economic profitability will be met so that a fair value can be attached to production.
These are our motivations: Environmental sustainability, renewable energies, a crop with reduced water requirements, growing economic potential.
